Date Posted: Wednesday, April 4th, 2012 DNREC’s next Scrap Tire Drop-Off Day set for April 21, 2012 at the Delaware State Fairgrounds   DOVER (April 2, 2012) – DNREC will host its eighth Scrap Tire Drop-Off Day recycling event Saturday, April 21, at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. Residents are encouraged to recycle scrap tires from passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks, with participation helping to reduce environmental and health hazards associated with scrap tires in the state’s communities.   Seven previous DNREC – sponsored drop off events have collected more than 14,080 scrap tires (weighing nearly 176 tons). Residents are invited to bring up to 10 passenger or light-duty truck tires per household for disposal and recycling. Larger tires or tires on rims will not be accepted. April 2nd, 2012 Town of Blades Municipal Elections The result for the three (3) Town of Blades Council positions is as follows: Incumbent Christena King 39 Votes Incumbent Robert Atkinson 55 Votes John Reiss 46 Votes Lee Benningfield 14 Votes David Ruff 41 Votes Town of Blades three (3) Councilmen are Robert Atkinson, John Reiss, and David Ruff. They will be sworn in on April 9th, 2012.


Back-Up Well Referendum Passes

March 19th, 2012 Special Election Results Referendum Election for proposed borrowing up to $375,000.00 made available by the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services through its Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.  The proposed project consists of the installation of a third back-up well and ancillaries along with a new raw waterline.  The loan will be amortized over thirty (30) years at an interest rate of 1%, with accrued interest payable during construction of the proposed project (42.8% of the loan (up to an amount equal to $160,500) will be forgiven and not have to be repaid by the Town).   Votes FOR:  56 Votes AGAINST: 5   The referendum has been passed by the property owners in the Town of Blades.

Cemetery Mowing & Trimming Bids Due

Seaford-Blades Bridge Closure

The Seaford-Blades Bridge will be closing January 30th, 2012 till February 3rd, 2012 from 8am to 2pm. The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) has scheduled maintenance repairs to the drawbridge over the Nanticoke River in Seaford. To decrease the impact on commuter traffic, all work will occur from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., each day beginning on Monday, January 30 and ending on Friday, February, 3, pending weather. The detour route will be clearly posted for motorists. Motorists should drive with caution, slow down in work zones, and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
