National Prescription Drug “Take-Back” Day Saturday October 26th, 2013

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and local law enforcement agencies are working together to sponsor National Prescription Drug “take-back” day tomorrow Saturday, October 26th, 2013.

Between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm designated police agencies will accept any outdated or unused medications for proper disposal.

Flushing or tossing away the medication in the trash is not recommended since many drugs can persist an cause environment damage. They can also impair the proper operation of septic systems.

Experts say periodically disposing of unneeded prescriptions reduces the chances of abuse of confusing medications.  According to DEA officials, over half of teens abusing medicines get them from a family member or friend, often without their knowledge.

There is no cost for the service and the collections are anonymous.

The collection site closest to the Town of Blades is:

DNREC – Environmental Crimes Unit, Nanticoke Mears Health Campus, 200 Rawlins Drive, Seaford
